Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has approved the appointment of Professor Tomola Marshal Obamuyi as the substantive Vice-Chancellor of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko.
The appointment followed the recommendation of the university's Governing Council after Obamuyi emerged as the top-ranked candidate among 15 professors interviewed by the institution's Joint Council and Senate Selection Board.
A statement issued on Friday by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ebenezer Adeniyan, said the appointment was made in accordance with the provisions of the university's law and other applicable regulations.
Obamuyi, a professor of Banking and Finance, will take over from the outgoing Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olugbenga Ige. He previously served as Head of the Department of Banking and Finance at AAUA and was the pioneer substantive Dean of the School of Management Technology at the Federal University of Technology, Akure.
The new Vice-Chancellor has earned local and international recognition in academia, including the 2015 Best Professor of Banking and Finance in Africa award. He has also served on accreditation panels of the National Universities Commission and participated in higher education quality assurance exercises in Namibia, while presenting scholarly papers at conferences across Europe, North America, Asia and Africa.
Governor Aiyedatiwa expressed confidence that the new Vice-Chancellor's academic pedigree, administrative experience and research background would strengthen the university's growth and enhance its contributions to teaching, research and community development.
"He is expected to consolidate on the achievements of the institution and take it to greater heights in teaching, research and community service," the statement said.
The governor also urged Obamuyi to promote excellence, innovation and harmony within the university community, assuring that his administration would continue to provide the necessary support to sustain AAUA's reputation as one of Nigeria's leading state-owned universities.
