Residents of Ilu-Abo community in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State have been thrown into anxiety following the abduction of a staff member of the local government, Mr. Samson Gbenga Sanni, by suspected gunmen.
Sanni, popularly known as “Timber,” was reportedly kidnapped at about 7:10 p.m. on Sunday in the Agbelere area of the community.
Sources said the victim had just arrived home when three armed men allegedly emerged from a nearby bush and forcefully took him away to an unknown destination.
The attackers were said to have carried out the operation in front of the victim’s residence while his wife and two children watched helplessly.
A community source disclosed that the gunmen struck shortly after Sanni returned from his day’s activities, leaving residents in shock.
The abducted worker is said to be an indigene of Akunu-Akoko in Akoko North-West Local Government Area of the state.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, said operatives had been deployed to the area to rescue the victim and apprehend the perpetrators.
He stated that tactical teams and other security personnel were already on the trail of the kidnappers, assuring residents that efforts were ongoing to secure the victim’s release.
The incident has heightened concerns over insecurity in parts of Ondo State, with residents calling for stronger security measures to curb the rising cases of abduction and violent crimes.
