Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force have rescued Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul, the younger sister of former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, alongside her 12-year-old twin sons, Peter and Paul, during a late-night operation in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The victims were freed at about 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 6, 2026, after a coordinated tactical response by police operatives following days of sustained intelligence tracking of the kidnappers’ hideout.
Security sources disclosed that the operation turned violent when the abductors engaged the police in a gun duel, prompting a fierce exchange of fire.
During the confrontation, two suspected kidnappers were neutralised, while two firearms were recovered from the gang. Other members of the syndicate were said to have fled the scene with suspected gunshot injuries.
The victims had been abducted earlier at about 7:30 a.m. on June 3, 2026, while they were reportedly on their way to drop the children at school.
Police sources said the rescue followed intensified surveillance and pressure mounted on the kidnappers’ network, which eventually forced a confrontation with security operatives.
Following the operation, security agencies have reportedly launched a manhunt for fleeing members of the gang, with efforts ongoing to comb surrounding areas to prevent their escape and ensure further arrests.
Authorities also assured residents of continued operations aimed at dismantling kidnapping networks operating within Oyo State and its environs.
