BREAKING: Unknown assailant beheads 18-month-old girl in Ondo

An 18-month-old girl has been brutally killed by unknown assailants at a farm settlement in Idanre Local Government Area of Ondo State, with her father calling for justice over the tragic incident.

The victim was reportedly attacked at Agoti Settlement, a farming community in Idanre, on June 8, 2026.

The bereaved father, Mr Bright Kalu, a farmer from Abia State, said he was away on another farm when the incident occurred. According to him, his wife had been left at their camp with their children while he attended to work elsewhere.

Recounting the incident, Kalu said he was returning from a nearby settlement where he had gone to purchase food items when he noticed that his wife appeared distressed.

He said she informed him that an unidentified person had stormed their camp and attacked her. According to him, she managed to rescue three of their children during the attack, but their youngest child could not be found.

Kalu said he immediately joined his elder brother, Ifeanyi, and his wife in searching the area for the missing child.

“Our search did not yield any result initially, but we later discovered the lifeless body of my daughter behind our house. Her head had been severed,” he said.

The grieving father appealed to the Ondo State Government, security agencies and relevant human rights organisations to ensure that those responsible for the killing are identified and prosecuted.

He disclosed that the case was first reported at the Olofin Police Station in Idanre before it was transferred to the Ondo State Police Command headquarters in Akure for further investigation.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said detectives had arrested a suspect in connection with the crime.

Jimoh added that investigations were ongoing and assured that the suspect would be charged to court once the investigation is concluded.
