An Akure Chief Magistrate’s Court has remanded a man, Jimoh Wasiu, in police custody over the alleged assault and public humiliation of a woman in Oba-Akoko, Ondo State.
The defendant was arraigned by the Ondo State Security Network Agency, popularly known as Amotekun Corps, on a charge of assault.
The prosecutor, P.O. Nwafor, told the court that the alleged incident occurred on May 4, 2026, at about 9:30 a.m. in Irefun Quarters, Oba-Akoko.
According to the prosecution, Wasiu allegedly attacked a woman identified as Selimat Nasiru by striking her in the face before stripping her naked in public.
Nwafor said the alleged offence contravened Section 355 of the Criminal Law of Ondo State, 2006.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Counsel for the defendant, Adewale Adelakin, urged the court to grant his client bail, assuring that he would not jump bail and would provide reliable sureties.
In his ruling, the Chief Magistrate, Damilola Sekoni, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum. The court directed that the sureties must reside within its jurisdiction and have their addresses verified. However, as the defendant failed to meet the bail conditions, he was remanded in police custody pending the perfection of his bail. The case was adjourned till June 29, 2026, for hearing.
