The Delta State Government has set aside Monday, June 22, 2026, for a special tribute session in honour of former political leader and community figure, Hon. Sunday Kpikpi Kotor, ahead of his burial scheduled for June 26 in Okwagbe, Ughelli South Local Government Area of the state.
The arrangement was contained in a funeral programme released by the Kotor family, which described the deceased as a distinguished son of Delta State whose life was devoted to public service, community advancement and the promotion of peace.
According to the family, the state-organised tribute event is expected to attract government functionaries, political associates, traditional rulers, community leaders, family members and other well-wishers who will gather to celebrate the life and contributions of the late elder statesman.
The programme also includes a series of activities such as Christian wake services, commendation ceremonies and traditional rites leading to his final interment in his hometown of Okwagbe on Friday, June 26.
Kotor was widely known for his role in community development initiatives and efforts aimed at fostering unity among diverse groups within Delta State. His death has continued to draw condolences from political leaders, associates and residents across the state.
In a statement, the family expressed gratitude to the Delta State Government, friends, associates and sympathisers for their support since his passing, noting that the planned tribute session reflects the high regard in which he was held during his lifetime.
The family said the late community leader would be remembered for his dedication to the welfare of his people, as well as his commitment to justice, peaceful coexistence and grassroots development.
Community stakeholders in Okwagbe also paid tribute to the deceased, describing him as a voice of wisdom and moderation whose counsel contributed significantly to the growth and stability of the area.
They noted that his legacy of selfless service, humility and leadership would continue to inspire younger generations long after his departure.
As preparations for the burial gather momentum, tributes have continued to pour in from different parts of the state, underscoring the lasting impact Kotor made in public life and within his community.
