The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed an explosion at the Shoe Materials Market in the Mushin area of the state, leaving one person injured.
The incident, which occurred on Monday, prompted an immediate response from security operatives, including personnel of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit, who were deployed to the scene to assess the situation and prevent further danger.
Speaking to journalists during an inspection of the area, the Commissioner of Police, Fatai Tijani, said preliminary findings indicated that the explosion was caused by an Improvised Explosive Device concealed inside a vehicle.
According to the police chief, the device had been placed beneath the passenger side of the vehicle and detonated when the vehicle was started.
He disclosed that one individual sustained injuries in the blast and was rushed to a medical facility for treatment. The victim was said to be in stable condition.
Tijani added that security personnel cordoned off the area immediately after the incident and carried out a comprehensive search to determine whether additional explosive materials were present.
The police commissioner said no other explosive device was discovered during the operation, assuring traders and residents that the situation had been brought under control.
He urged members of the public to remain calm and continue their lawful activities while investigations into the circumstances surrounding the explosion continue.
