The Katsina State Police Command has arrested a 23-year-old woman, Sadiya Lawal, over the alleged attempted murder of her husband during a domestic dispute in Katsina metropolis.
The command's spokesperson, DSP Abubakar Sadiq, said in a statement on Monday that the suspect was taken into custody after her husband, Jamilu Ibrahim, reported that she allegedly attacked him with a knife while he was asleep.
According to the police, the incident occurred in the early hours of the day, leaving the victim with a severe neck injury. He was immediately taken to a hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment.
Sadiq said detectives visited the scene after receiving the report, arrested the suspect and recovered the knife believed to have been used in the attack. He added that the woman would be prosecuted upon the conclusion of investigations.
The police also announced that operatives thwarted a suspected bandits' attack in Dandume Local Government Area after receiving intelligence that armed men on motorcycles had been sighted along the Kadisau-Sheme Road.
The spokesperson said the Divisional Police Officer deployed personnel from the Violent Crimes Response Unit alongside members of the Katsina State Community Watch Corps to the area, where they engaged the suspected criminals in a gun battle.
He said the suspects fled the scene after encountering superior firepower, abandoning two motorcycles and a machete, which were recovered by the security team. He added that efforts were ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
Reacting to the separate incidents, the Commissioner of Police, Aliyu Umar Fage, praised the officers for their swift response and reiterated the command's commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.
Fage also advised residents to resolve domestic disagreements through peaceful and lawful means while urging members of the public to continue providing useful information that would assist security agencies in combating crime and other criminal activities across the state.
