The All Progressives Congress candidate for Akoko South West II Constituency, Hon. Niran Olanusi, has paid tribute to the heroes of the June 12 struggle, describing their sacrifices as the foundation of Nigeria's democratic journey.
In a statement issued on Thursday to mark Democracy Day, Olanusi also commended Ondo State Governor, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, for what he described as purposeful leadership and developmental strides across the state.
The APC candidate specifically honoured the late Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola, noting that his courage and commitment to democratic ideals remain a source of inspiration for Nigerians.
According to Olanusi, June 12 serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made by patriots who fought for the entrenchment of democracy and good governance in the country.
He also congratulated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on the occasion, acknowledging his role in the pro-democracy movement and his ongoing efforts to implement the Renewed Hope Agenda.
Olanusi said Nigeria's uninterrupted democratic experience over the past 27 years reflects the resilience of its people and the strength of its democratic institutions.
The APC flagbearer further praised Governor Aiyedatiwa for translating democratic dividends into tangible development through investments in infrastructure, youth empowerment, agriculture, healthcare and security.
He said the governor's policies had continued to boost public confidence in governance, adding that communities in Akoko South West II Constituency were benefiting from the administration's development initiatives.
"Governor Aiyedatiwa has demonstrated purposeful leadership through policies and programmes that are positively impacting the lives of the people. His commitment to development is evident across various sectors of the state economy," he stated.
Olanusi congratulated the President, the Ondo State governor and residents of Akoko South West II on the Democracy Day celebration, urging constituents to continue supporting leaders committed to delivering good governance and development.
He also called on Nigerians to uphold democratic values and work collectively towards building a peaceful, secure and prosperous nation.
