Former National President of the Nigerian Medical Association, Prof. Adedayo Faduyile, has won the Ondo South Senatorial by-election conducted on Saturday on the platform of the All Progressives Congress.
The election result was announced by the Returning Officer, Prof. Gbenga Ibileye, at the collation centre in Okitipupa, Ondo State.
Faduyile, who currently serves as Special Adviser on Health to Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, defeated candidates of three other political parties to secure victory in the keenly contested poll.
According to the official results released by the electoral authorities, the APC candidate polled 68,474 votes to emerge winner of the election.
The by-election was conducted to fill the vacant Ondo South Senatorial seat, with voters across the district turning out to elect a new representative.
Faduyile's victory further strengthens the APC's political dominance in the senatorial district and adds another chapter to his public service career, which spans the medical profession and government administration.
The declaration of the result was greeted with jubilation by APC supporters and party leaders who thronged the collation centre following the announcement.
Details of the votes scored by the other candidates were yet to be made available as of the time of filing this report.
