A nine-year-old boy, Victor Oluwatobi, who was abducted by gunmen in Idogun, Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State, has regained his freedom after spending about three weeks in captivity.
The child, son of a cleric, was reportedly rescued on Sunday through the coordinated efforts of security agencies and has since been reunited with his family.
Victor was kidnapped on June 5 when armed assailants stormed Ugbosi Quarters in Idogun during a midnight attack. The gunmen reportedly damaged two residential buildings while attempting to abduct the property owners, who managed to escape.
In the confusion that followed, the boy was left behind in the house as he slept, making it impossible for his father, Pastor Oluwatobi, to evacuate all his children before the attackers struck.
Following the abduction, the Ondo State Government mobilised security personnel, including soldiers, police operatives, personnel of the Amotekun Corps and local vigilantes, to intensify search operations across forests and surrounding communities.
The security teams reportedly conducted sustained operations in a bid to locate the victim and secure his release.
Residents of the area have commended Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa and the security agencies for their commitment and efforts, which culminated in the boy’s safe return.
Confirming the development, the Ondo State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Idowu Ajanaku, praised security operatives and all individuals who played roles in the successful rescue of the child.
