A resident of Jos, Plateau State, identified as Salisu Muhammed, has died after collapsing during a football training session in the Jos North Local Government Area of the state.
The incident occurred on Monday morning at the Massalacin Edi football field in the Alikazaure community, leaving teammates, residents and other participants in shock.
According to eyewitnesses, the deceased was actively involved in the training exercise when he suddenly fell on the pitch.
One of his teammates, Abba Abdullahi, said efforts were made to save his life as he was immediately rushed to a hospital for medical attention.
"He was playing with us when he suddenly collapsed. We quickly took him to the hospital, but doctors later confirmed that he had died," Abdullahi said.
The tragic development reportedly brought the training session to an abrupt end as players and spectators gathered in disbelief over the incident.
Friends and associates who attended Muhammed's funeral described him as a peaceful, humble and respectful individual whose death had created a huge void among those who knew him.
The deceased, popularly known as Achilata, was said to be a native of the Anguwan Rogo community in Jos.
Family sources disclosed that he is survived by his parents, wife and four children.
He was laid to rest in accordance with Islamic rites at the Babale Cemetery in Jos, amid prayers from family members, friends and sympathisers for the repose of his soul.
