A motorist, Gabriel Ifasanmi, has been arraigned before an Akure Magistrate’s Court for allegedly driving recklessly and injuring an operative of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, also known as Amotekun.
Ifasanmi was docked on two counts of careless driving and assault occasioning harm.
The prosecutor, T.T. Samuel, told the court that the defendant allegedly committed the offences on May 23, 2026, along Oda Road, Akure.
According to the prosecution, Ifasanmi drove on a public highway without due care and allegedly injured an Amotekun operative, Sunday Adegeenro, during the incident.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Explaining his side of the story, Ifasanmi said he had a disagreement with a motorcyclist who repeatedly obstructed his movement and claimed he was later surrounded and attacked by Amotekun operatives after being trapped in traffic.
He maintained that he was unaware the motorcyclist was an Amotekun officer.
Defence counsel, S.O. Folagbade, urged the court to grant bail and release the defendant’s vehicle, describing it as his source of livelihood.
In her ruling, Magistrate Damilola Sekoni admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum. The court also ordered the release of the vehicle upon the fulfilment of additional bail conditions.
The case was adjourned until July 22, 2026, for hearing.
