Nine die, eleven injured as gunmen invade Kaduna community

A fresh attack by suspected bandits on Unguwar Magaji community in Kamaru Ward, Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, has left nine persons dead and 11 others injured.

The incident, which occurred in the troubled community, was confirmed on Wednesday by the spokesperson for the Irigwe Youth Movement, Joseph Yonkpa.

According to Yonkpa, early reports from the attack indicated that two residents had been killed. However, the death toll increased after search teams combing the area discovered seven more bodies.

He said the attackers invaded the community armed with guns and machetes, attacking residents and leaving several others with injuries.

The deceased were identified as Jerry Doctor, Danlami Magani, Sunday Chibi, Rita Abdullahi, Sunday Elkan, Esther Kefas, Happy Friday, Moses Daddy and Daddy Ibrahim.

The injured victims were named as Halla Monday, Mary Yohanna, Jummai John, Charity Danjuma, Faith Yakubu, Omi Yakubu, Ali Sandiye, Asabe Victor, Srarina Simon, Talatu Sunday and ThankGod Danladi.

Residents were said to have fled for safety during the attack, which has further heightened concerns over the recurring insecurity in the area.

Efforts to obtain an official reaction from the Kaduna State Police Command were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report, as the command had yet to release a statement on the incident.

The latest assault is one of several violent attacks recorded in parts of Kaduna State in recent months, with communities continuing to grapple with killings, kidnappings and other forms of criminal activities linked to armed groups.
