Former presidential candidate of the Accord Party, Dr. Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim, has welcomed the recent agreement between the United States and Iran aimed at easing tensions and promoting stability in the Middle East.
Olawepo-Hashim, who is also the Co-Chairman of the Movement for Democratic Renewal, described the development as a positive step towards peace, stressing that dialogue remains the most effective means of resolving international disputes.
Speaking during a visit to Dakar, Senegal, the politician commended the governments and international actors involved in facilitating negotiations that culminated in the agreement.
He specifically acknowledged the roles played by the United States, Iran, Qatar and Pakistan, as well as other partners whose diplomatic engagements contributed to the breakthrough.
According to him, the accord demonstrates the enduring relevance of diplomacy in addressing complex geopolitical challenges at a time of growing uncertainty across the world.
Olawepo-Hashim noted that peace and stability in the Middle East extend beyond the region, given their impact on global security, energy supplies, trade and economic growth.
He said disruptions in the region often reverberate across continents due to the interconnected nature of the global economy.
The former presidential candidate further stated that Nigeria and other African countries have a vested interest in a peaceful international environment, arguing that stability creates favourable conditions for investment, development and economic progress.
He urged nations to continue embracing dialogue, cooperation and mutual understanding in resolving disputes, saying such approaches offer a more sustainable path to peace than confrontation.
Olawepo-Hashim expressed optimism that the agreement would help reduce hostilities in the Middle East and strengthen international efforts aimed at fostering peaceful coexistence, economic stability and shared prosperity.
The politician maintained that the global community must remain committed to diplomatic solutions in order to safeguard international peace and promote long-term development.
