The Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission has highlighted a series of infrastructure and social intervention projects delivered across its mandate areas, as its Executive Chairman, Prince Olabiyi Olaleye Poroye, marked one year in office.
Poroye, who assumed leadership of the commission in June 2025, said the agency had focused on completing abandoned but viable projects while initiating new ones aimed at improving the quality of life in oil-producing communities.
Speaking during an inspection of completed and ongoing projects, the chairman said the achievements recorded within the past year reflected the commission’s commitment to sustainable development and responsive governance.
He noted that upon inauguration, the board resolved to prioritise inherited projects that were considered beneficial to residents, stressing that the decision had accelerated development across several riverine communities.
Among the projects inspected were newly completed concrete walkways at Obe-Nla, Obe-Rewoye, Obe-Ogbaro, Obe-Magbe and Obe-Lomore. The projects, according to him, have been completed and are awaiting formal inauguration.
Poroye explained that the initiative was designed to replace aging wooden walkways with stronger and more durable concrete structures, thereby enhancing safety and accessibility in difficult terrains.
At Obe-Nla, he described the completed walkway as a practical demonstration of effective planning and project execution, adding that the community is being considered for a pilot land reclamation programme being proposed by the commission.
The chairman also inspected the Molutehin Mini Water Scheme, which he said had reached an advanced stage of completion. He disclosed that an additional borehole was being drilled to boost water supply and ensure residents have access to clean and potable water.
According to him, the commission remains committed to addressing the infrastructural needs of oil-bearing communities in line with the developmental vision of the Ondo State Government.
While acknowledging challenges such as limited funding and overlapping project demands, Poroye expressed confidence that more projects would be delivered in the coming months.
He commended Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa for supporting the commission’s activities and creating an environment conducive to development in the mandate areas.
Poroye also praised engineers, contractors and community leaders for their collaboration, noting that their support had contributed significantly to the successful execution of projects.
In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary of the commission, Mr F.A. Omomowo, described the projects as evidence of OSOPADEC’s commitment to grassroots development and improved welfare for residents.
He urged beneficiaries to protect government facilities in their communities and ensure that the infrastructure is properly maintained for future use.
