A Nigerian man, Odumayo Olufemi, has raised the alarm after allegedly receiving N100,000 from suspected bandits during a TikTok live broadcast, claiming that the same individuals later demanded N100 million from him.
Olufemi made the claim in a viral video, where he appealed to Nigerians and security agencies for assistance, saying he feared for his safety following the unexpected demand.
According to him, the incident began on June 6 when he joined a TikTok live session in which the hosts reportedly promised cash rewards to anyone who followed their page.
He said many participants initially treated the offer as a joke, but were surprised when money was subsequently transferred to some of them.
The situation, however, took a troubling turn after he allegedly received a message demanding N100 million shortly after the payment landed in his account.
Narrating his experience, Olufemi said he had no prior relationship with the individuals behind the live session and only participated because of the cash giveaway announced during the broadcast.
“I came across some bandits during a live session on June 6. During the session, they promised to give money to anyone who followed their page, so I followed. We all thought it was a joke,” he said.
He added that after receiving the N100,000, he was contacted and allegedly instructed to produce N100 million.
“As soon as I received the money, I got a message demanding N100 million. Nigerians, please come to my rescue,” he pleaded.
Olufemi further claimed that he was not the only beneficiary of the giveaway, alleging that several other participants also received money during the live session.
The matter gained wider attention after it was highlighted on the “What’s Trending” segment of a television programme on Tuesday.
While the allegations have sparked concern on social media, there was no immediate confirmation from security agencies, and the claims had yet to be independently verified as of press time.
The incident has nevertheless raised fresh questions about the activities of criminal elements on social media platforms and the potential risks associated with online interactions.
