A Nigerian national, Ayodeji Ajayi, has been deported from the United States following a series of criminal convictions and immigration violations, American authorities have said.
The United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement announced the deportation in a statement released on Tuesday, stating that Ajayi remained in the country unlawfully after entering on a student visa in 2007.
According to the agency, Ajayi failed to leave the US after discontinuing his studies, thereby violating the conditions of his visa.
ICE alleged that while residing in the country, he accumulated a criminal record that included convictions for domestic violence, trespassing, intimidation and obstruction.
The agency further stated that his record contained allegations relating to kidnapping, rape and family neglect, although it did not provide details on the disposition of those cases.
In the statement, immigration officials said the deportation formed part of ongoing efforts by the administration of US President Donald Trump to remove undocumented immigrants with criminal records from the country.
The agency noted that Ajayi had been scheduled for removal from the United States but did not disclose the exact date the deportation was carried out or the locations where the offences occurred.
US immigration authorities have intensified enforcement actions in recent months as part of a broader crackdown targeting non-citizens found to have violated immigration laws or committed criminal offences.
The latest deportation highlights the continued focus of American authorities on identifying, detaining and removing foreign nationals who overstay their visas and subsequently come into conflict with the law.
