There was excitement in Igboho, Oyo State, on Friday following the reported release of a family that had been held captive by kidnappers, shortly after a public intervention by Yoruba Nation advocate, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho.
The freed victims were said to include a pregnant woman, her children and another family member, whose return sparked widespread jubilation among residents of the community.
Videos shared online captured groups of residents gathering in celebration, expressing gratitude and relief over the safe return of the abductees after days of uncertainty.
The release came amid heightened tension in the area following complaints over recurring incidents of kidnapping and violent crimes affecting residents.
Earlier, Igboho had met with community leaders and representatives, where he voiced strong concerns about the worsening security situation and called for urgent action to address the trend.
During the gathering, he condemned reports of abductions and alleged attacks on victims, warning that criminal activities would no longer be tolerated within the community.
The activist subsequently demanded the freedom of persons reportedly being held by kidnappers, setting a deadline and urging those responsible to release them without delay.
Hours later, reports emerged that the abducted family had regained their freedom, prompting residents to troop into the streets in celebration. However, details regarding how the victims were released remained sketchy as of the time of filing this report.
