The Independent National Electoral Commission has granted political parties an additional three days to submit the names and personal particulars of their candidates for the 2027 presidential and National Assembly elections.
The electoral umpire announced on Sunday that the deadline, which expired on Saturday, July 11, has been rescheduled to midnight on Tuesday, July 14, 2026.
The development was contained in a statement issued by the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Kudu Haruna.
According to the commission, the extension followed a request from the Inter-Party Advisory Council, which appealed on behalf of political parties that could not complete the nomination process within the stipulated period.
INEC said the decision was taken to provide affected parties with additional time to conclude the upload of their candidates' details through the Candidate Nomination Portal in line with the law.
The commission maintained that the extension is aimed at promoting a fair and inclusive electoral process while ensuring compliance with the provisions of the Electoral Act.
It also advised political parties to utilise the extra period to complete all outstanding submissions before the new deadline lapses.
The extension follows difficulties reportedly encountered by some political parties during the online nomination process.
Meanwhile, the All Progressives Congress had earlier confirmed that it successfully submitted the details of its 471 presidential and National Assembly candidates before the deadline was reviewed.
