Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, Ondo State, will on Tuesday, August 4, hold its 68th inaugural lecture with a Professor of Climatology, Oyenike Mary Eludoyin, set to examine the human dimension of climate change and environmental health in Nigeria.
The institution disclosed this in a statement issued by the Chairman of the University Ceremonies Committee and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Adebisi Daramola.
According to the statement, the lecture, titled "The Human Element in the Climate Equation: Navigating Thermal Stress and Environmental Health in a Warming Nigeria," will be delivered at the university's Multipurpose Hall by 2 p.m., while guests are expected to be seated by 1:30 p.m.
The event will also be the first inaugural lecture to be presided over by the university's Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Tomola Obamuyi, since assuming office.
Eludoyin obtained her Bachelor of Science (Education) in Geography from the then Adeyemi College of Education, Ondo, in 1999, before earning a Master's degree in Geography (Climatology) in 2003 and a Ph.D. in Climatology in 2015 from the University of Ibadan.
She joined the services of AAUA in 2005 as an Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Geography and Planning Sciences and rose through the academic ranks to become a professor in 2021.
The university noted that the climatologist has distinguished herself in teaching, research, postgraduate supervision, mentorship and academic advisory services, while contributing significantly to climate and environmental studies.
According to the statement, Eludoyin has authored a book, contributed chapters to academic publications and published more than 45 peer-reviewed articles in local and international journals. She has also participated in several research projects, with others still ongoing.
The statement added that she has received several academic grants and scholarships, including TETFund sponsorships for doctoral research analysis at Rothamsted Research, United Kingdom, in 2011, and a specialised short course at the University of Exeter, United Kingdom, in 2014.
It further stated that the professor is a member of several professional bodies, including the Nigerian Geographical Association, Nigerian Meteorological Society, American Geophysical Union, International Society of Biometeorology, African Academic Network and the National Association of Women Academics.
