The internal crisis rocking the Accord Party in Osun State worsened on Saturday as some state executives warned Governor Ademola Adeleke to publicly support the party's presidential candidate, Dr Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim, or risk losing their backing ahead of the 2026 governorship election.
The party leaders said Adeleke could not continue to benefit from the Accord platform while allegedly identifying with political interests outside the party's national leadership.
In a statement issued in Osogbo, the party's State Public Relations Officer, Daniel Adedayo, and State Youth Leader, Tolulope Babalola, warned that failure by the governor to align with Hashim's presidential ambition could force members to support the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Oyebamiji.
The executives maintained that the governor must make a clear political choice, insisting that his continued support for President Bola Tinubu was incompatible with the party's national position.
"If the governor believes President Bola Tinubu deserves another term in 2027, then Bola Oyebamiji should equally be considered fit to govern Osun State," the statement read.
The party leaders argued that although Adeleke remained a prominent political figure within the Accord Party in Osun, he lacked the authority to determine the party's national direction or override its collective decisions.
"Governor Adeleke remains only one voice among many in the party nationwide and cannot dictate for the party," they added.
They urged the governor to demonstrate loyalty to the party by supporting Olawepo-Hashim's presidential aspiration, saying such a move would strengthen Accord's national structure and unity ahead of the 2027 general election.
