Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, on Saturday met with the President of the Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, in Lagos to advance discussions on the proposed industrial development of the Olokola Free Trade Zone.
The governor's Chief Press Secretary, Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan, disclosed this in a statement, saying the meeting formed part of ongoing engagements between the Ondo State Government and the Dangote Group aimed at accelerating the development of the free trade zone.
According to the statement, both parties discussed practical steps towards transforming the Olokola Free Trade Zone into a multi-sector industrial hub that would take advantage of Ondo State's coastline, deep seaport potential and abundant natural resources.
Aiyedatiwa said the project remained one of the flagship initiatives of his administration under the OUR EASE agenda, noting that it would attract large-scale investments, create thousands of jobs and strengthen the state's position as a major industrial and maritime destination.
"Alhaji Dangote is a visionary investor and a true patriot. Our conversation centred on how we can partner to unlock the full economic potential of the zone for the benefit of our people, the South-West region and Nigeria at large," the governor said.
He added that both sides reviewed the progress recorded on the project and agreed to deepen technical engagements, infrastructure planning and frameworks for private sector participation in the development of the free trade zone.
The governor also appreciated Dangote for sustaining his interest in investing in Ondo State and for his commitment to Nigeria's industrial development.
He reaffirmed his administration's commitment to providing the necessary incentives, policy support and enabling environment required for the successful take-off of the Olokola Free Trade Zone project.
