The Ondo State Government has dismissed allegations that Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa is engaging in anti-party activities ahead of the 2027 general elections, insisting that the governor remains loyal to the All Progressives Congress and its candidates.
The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan, stated this in a statement issued on Monday, describing reports linking Aiyedatiwa with the African Democratic Congress as false and a deliberate attempt to create division within the ruling party.
The clarification followed the circulation of a photograph showing the governor with the ADC's Ondo Central Senatorial candidate, Senator Ayo Akinyelure, after a church service at the Government House Chapel in Akure on Sunday.
According to Adeniyan, the Government House Chapel is a public place of worship open to all residents, religious leaders and public office holders, stressing that it is not reserved exclusively for members of the APC.
He explained that Akinyelure attended the chapel for worship and also used the opportunity to appreciate the governor for sending a delegation and goodwill message during his 70th birthday celebration last week.
The governor's aide added that the visit was a routine gesture of courtesy and respect, which should not be interpreted as a political endorsement or alliance.
He also noted that Senator Akinyelure is the younger brother of Chief Pius Akinyelure, an APC leader, ally of President Bola Tinubu and Chairman of the Governor's Advisory Council in Ondo State.
Adeniyan maintained that Governor Aiyedatiwa remains fully committed to the APC and would continue to work with party leaders and stakeholders to ensure victory for all APC candidates in future elections across the state.
He urged party members and the public to ignore what he described as the handiwork of mischief-makers seeking to sow discord within the party.
According to him, the governor remains focused on delivering good governance and consolidating the achievements of the APC administration in Ondo State rather than being distracted by unfounded political speculation.
