Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, on Tuesday rewarded outstanding students, teachers and national award recipients with cash prizes, while approving automatic employment into the state public service for seven National Youth Service Corps awardees.
The governor announced the appointments during an award ceremony held at the Cocoa Conference Centre, Governor's Office, Akure, where each of the 67 recipients received a cash reward of ₦1 million in recognition of their outstanding achievements.
Aiyedatiwa said the initiative underscored his administration's commitment to promoting excellence and retaining exceptional talents in the state, stressing that investment in education and human capital development remained central to Ondo's long-term growth.
He described the awardees as worthy ambassadors of the state whose academic excellence, innovation, discipline and commitment had brought honour to Ondo, urging them to remain focused and continue to inspire younger generations.
The governor also praised teachers for their role in shaping future leaders, describing them as the driving force behind every success story and reaffirming his administration's commitment to improving the education sector.
According to him, the state's OUR EASE agenda has prioritised the rehabilitation of schools, recruitment and training of teachers, provision of modern learning facilities, digital education, technical and vocational training, workers' welfare and safe learning environments.
The award categories included seven recipients of the NYSC National Award, 54 candidates who scored above 300 in the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, students who represented Ondo State and Nigeria at national and international academic competitions, as well as two teachers recognised for outstanding performance in the public and private school categories.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Education, Prof. Igbekele Ajibefun, said the recognition was aimed at encouraging academic excellence and motivating students and teachers across the state. He commended the governor for prioritising education and creating a platform to celebrate exceptional achievements.
