Residents of Angwan Durun-Uwa in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State were thrown into shock on Thursday after the decomposing body of a beheaded person was discovered inside a sack at a refuse dump.
The identity of the victim had yet to be established as of the time of filing this report.
Confirming the incident, a community youth leader, Danjuma Ibrahim, said he received a distress call at about 7:30am informing him that a suspicious sack containing a corpse had been dumped at the refuse site.
"I received a call early in the morning that a headless body had been abandoned inside a sack at the refuse dump in Angwan Durun-Uwa. We immediately alerted the police, who responded promptly to the scene," Ibrahim said.
He explained that the body had already decomposed considerably before it was discovered, making immediate identification impossible.
The remains were later evacuated from the scene as security operatives commenced an investigation to determine the identity of the deceased and track down those responsible for the killing.
Efforts to obtain an official reaction from the spokesperson for the Plateau State Police Command, SP Alfred Alabo, were unsuccessful, as he could not be reached before the report was filed.
The latest discovery has heightened anxiety among residents, who called on security agencies to intensify efforts to uncover the circumstances surrounding the gruesome killing and bring the perpetrators to justice.
