A teacher, Malam Mustapha Yahaya Maru, has reportedly been killed by his abductors despite the payment of a ₦3 million ransom by his family to secure his freedom in Zamfara State.
The victim was abducted in May along the Anka Road while returning to the Federal Government College, Anka, alongside some of his colleagues.
The development was disclosed on Saturday by security analyst and conflict tracker Bakatsine in a post on X, where he said the kidnappers killed the teacher after collecting the ransom.
According to him, the tragic incident underscores the growing danger of paying ransoms, as it no longer guarantees the safe release of victims.
"Malam Mustapha Yahaya Maru, a teacher from Maru who was abducted along Anka Road, has reportedly been killed by his captors despite his family paying ₦3 million ransom," Bakatsine wrote.
He added, "It is a painful reminder that paying ransom offers no assurance of survival. Our thoughts are with his family and everyone affected by this tragic loss."
Maru's abduction was reported in May when he and several colleagues were seized by armed men while travelling along the notorious Anka Road, an area that has witnessed repeated attacks by bandits.
As of the time of filing this report, security agencies and the Zamfara State Government had yet to officially confirm the teacher's death, while concerns continue to mount over the worsening insecurity across the state.
