Barber shot dead by gunmen inside salon

A barber identified simply as Hafiz has been shot dead after suspected gunmen invaded his barbing salon at Church Gate along the Badagry Expressway in Lagos State.

The incident was said to have occurred on the night of July 21 when three armed men reportedly stormed the salon shortly after the victim had finished attending to a customer.

According to sources, Hafiz was preparing to close for the day when the attackers entered the shop and opened fire on him before fleeing the scene.

A source familiar with the incident said the victim had completed a haircut and was about to shut his business when the assailants struck.

"The customer had just left after his haircut. Hafiz was about closing when three armed men walked into the salon and shot him before escaping immediately," the source said.

The victim was reportedly rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors confirmed him dead on arrival.

An anti-cultism monitoring platform, Naija Confra, also confirmed the killing, stating that Hafiz was shot twice in the head inside his shop by unidentified attackers.

The platform, however, noted that the motive behind the killing remained unclear, adding that residents insisted the area had not witnessed cult-related violence in recent times.

According to the group, locals said the community had remained peaceful and that they could not immediately determine whether the attack was linked to cult activities, business dealings or any other dispute.

Efforts to obtain the reaction of the Lagos State Police Command were unsuccessful, as calls and a text message sent to the command's spokesperson, CSP Abimbola Adebisi, were not responded to as of the time of filing this report.

The latest killing comes weeks after suspected cultists reportedly invaded the Oreta community in the Ikorodu area of Lagos, where a 22-year-old man, Abdulmalik Bakare, and two others were killed.
