Suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP insurgents have abducted the wife of a pastor and her three children along the Maiduguri-Damasak highway in Borno State.
The incident reportedly occurred around noon on Saturday near Kareto village in Mobbar Local Government Area, as the victims were travelling to Damasak to reunite with the pastor, Moses Guguma, who oversees a COCIN church in the town.
Community sources said the gunmen intercepted the commercial vehicle conveying the family, ordered the pastor's wife and her three children to disembark, but allowed the remaining passengers to continue their journey before taking the victims into the bush.
A source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, disclosed that the woman had only recently been discharged from a hospital in Maiduguri and was still recuperating when the abduction occurred.
As of Sunday, the whereabouts of the victims remained unknown, while there had been no communication from the abductors regarding any ransom demand.
Security agencies had yet to issue an official statement on the incident at the time of filing this report.
Another source close to the family alleged that the victims were singled out because of their religious affiliation.
The source added that relatives and members of the church had commenced special prayer sessions, expressing hope for the safe return of the abducted woman and her children.
The latest incident highlights the persistent security challenges along major roads in northern Borno, where insurgents have continued to target commuters despite ongoing military operations in the region.
