Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has approved the release of N1.1 billion as a special intervention fund to the Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, to offset outstanding salary arrears owed to members of staff and resolve the institution's lingering industrial crisis.
The governor's Chief Press Secretary, Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, saying the intervention was aimed at addressing workers' welfare and restoring academic activities at the state-owned university.
According to the statement, Aiyedatiwa has directed the Ministry of Finance and the university management to ensure the immediate release and disbursement of the funds to beneficiaries.
The governor also appealed to the university's staff unions to suspend their ongoing industrial action and return to work in the interest of students and the continued development of the institution.
The statement read, “The intervention is specifically to offset outstanding salary arrears owed to staff of the institution and to bring an end to the ongoing industrial dispute in the institution.
“The Governor has directed the Ministry of Finance and the University Management to ensure prompt release and disbursement of the funds, and has called on the unions to suspend strike and return to work in the interest of our students and the development of the institution.”
The state government said the intervention reflects the administration's commitment to improving education and prioritising workers' welfare, noting that a motivated workforce remains essential to building a globally competitive university.
