Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi, the self-acclaimed Director-General of the alleged Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council, has been arrested following a bench warrant issued by a Federal High Court in Abuja.
Adeyemi's arrest was confirmed on Tuesday in a video released by TVC News, which showed him in police custody shortly after the court ordered his arrest.
Justice Mohammed Umar had earlier directed security agencies to arrest Adeyemi after he failed to appear before the court for his arraignment on charges bordering on conspiracy, forgery and impersonation.
The order followed an oral application by counsel to the Nigeria Police Force, Wisdom Madaki, who urged the court to issue a bench warrant against the defendant over his absence.
Adeyemi is being prosecuted over his alleged involvement in operating the purported Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council, an organisation the Presidency has repeatedly stated is not a recognised Federal Government agency.
The case is one of a series of legal proceedings arising from allegations that forged government documents were used to present the council as a legitimate institution and portray Adeyemi as its Director-General.
