Family members, associates and admirers of the late Pa Newton Aaron Amie Igali have paid glowing tributes to the renowned educationist, accountant and community leader as they marked his posthumous 100th birthday.
The centenary celebration, held on July 27, 2026, drew reflections on the life and contributions of Pa Igali, who was described as a distinguished educationist, accomplished chartered accountant, public administrator, philanthropist and committed Christian whose impact transcended Rivers State and the Niger Delta.
Speakers at the event said the late Pa Igali devoted his life to promoting excellence, integrity, discipline and selfless service, virtues they noted continue to inspire younger generations.
They recalled his pioneering role in the education sector during the 1950s as one of the leading head teachers in the old Yenagoa Province, where he was recognised for promoting quality education and moral values among pupils.
Tributes also highlighted his involvement in the campaign for the creation of Rivers State, noting that he joined other Ijaw leaders in the early 1960s to advocate constitutional reforms while in the United Kingdom.
In the accounting profession, Pa Igali was celebrated as one of the first chartered accountants from the old Rivers State after qualifying through the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants. He later attained the prestigious Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants status in recognition of his professional accomplishments.
His public service career also came under focus, with family members and associates recalling that he served as the pioneer Chief Accountant of the Rivers State Transport Corporation before becoming the first Bursar of the then College of Science and Technology, now Rivers State University, where he helped establish sound financial management structures.
Beyond his professional achievements, Pa Igali was remembered as a businessman, mentor, community leader and active member of the Anglican Communion, whose generosity, humility and commitment to Christian service positively influenced many lives.
Family members said his legacy of honesty, diligence, excellence and devotion to God would remain a guiding light for future generations.
They described him as "a gentleman among gentlemen" whose exemplary character earned him widespread respect throughout his lifetime.
As part of the centenary remembrance, prayers were offered for the repose of his soul, while the family reaffirmed its commitment to preserving the values he stood for.
"Your life reflected purpose, sacrifice and unwavering service. Though you are no longer with us, your legacy will continue to inspire generations," the family said.
