Fire kills Nigerian woman inside house of man she met at nightclub



A yet-to-be-identified woman has died in a fire outbreak at a residential building on Ikpa Road in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital, after reportedly accompanying a man she met at a nightclub to his home.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, with the woman trapped inside the building while the male occupant reportedly escaped unhurt before the fire spread through the apartment.

Residents said the deceased had met the man at a nightclub in Uyo shortly before they went to the residence, where the tragic incident later occurred.

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command confirmed the incident, saying one woman lost her life in the fire while a male occupant survived.

The command’s spokesperson, Timfon John, said the police had commenced investigations into the incident.

He said, “The Akwa Ibom State Police Command confirms that a fire incident occurred at a residential building along Ikpa Road, Uyo. Regrettably, one adult female lost her life in the incident, while a male occupant survived.”

John added that the identity of the deceased had yet to be established, noting that efforts were ongoing to trace her relatives.

“The deceased has not been formally identified. Efforts are ongoing to establish her identity, and updates will be communicated as soon as they become available,” he stated.

The police assured the public that further information would be released as investigations into the cause of the fire continue.
