Former deputy governor loses two children in road accident

The immediate past Deputy Governor of Bauchi State, Senator Baba Tela, has lost two of his children, Mustapha and Ummi, in a fatal road accident along the Bauchi–Azare highway.

The siblings were said to have died on Saturday while travelling from Azare, the headquarters of Katagum Local Government Area, to Bauchi when the vehicle conveying them was involved in a crash.

According to reports, the impact of the accident was severe, and both victims died at the scene before their bodies were evacuated to a hospital in Bauchi, where medical personnel confirmed their deaths.

The tragic incident has thrown the former deputy governor and his family into mourning.

Reacting to the development, Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, expressed sadness over the loss and extended his condolences to Senator Tela and members of his family.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mukhtar Gidado, the governor described the incident as a heartbreaking tragedy, saying the deaths of the two children were a painful loss not only to the bereaved family but also to the people of Bauchi State.

Mohammed noted that no words could adequately ease the grief occasioned by the untimely deaths, praying that Almighty Allah forgives the shortcomings of the deceased, grants them eternal rest in Aljannatul Firdaus, and gives the family the strength to bear the irreparable loss.

The statement added that the funeral prayers for Mustapha and Ummi were scheduled to hold at the Emir's Palace in Bauchi on Sunday at 11 a.m.
