A former supporter of Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has accused the governor of abandoning loyalists, practising ethnic bias and favouring political defectors, following an alleged disagreement that ended with him being blocked on WhatsApp.
The former loyalist, Abubakar Jibril Shuwa, who hails from Madagali Local Government Area of the state, made the allegations in a statement in which he recounted what he described as the collapse of a relationship that lasted several years.
Shuwa claimed he had repeatedly contacted the governor over a government approval involving his company, Capacity Communication Ltd, which he alleged had remained pending for about three months despite earlier assurances.
He also shared screenshots of what he described as a WhatsApp conversation with the governor.
According to the messages, the governor allegedly responded to his repeated calls by asking him to send a text message instead, warning that he would block him if the calls continued.
Shuwa said that after informing the governor about the pending approval, Fintiri allegedly questioned why he had posted a photograph of the governor's mother on Facebook and reportedly told him he would not receive any assistance.
The former supporter described the exchange as the turning point in a political relationship he said began more than a decade ago, when Fintiri served as Acting Governor of Adamawa State.
He alleged that he devoted personal resources and media expertise to promoting the governor's political career and claimed he lost his job during the 2019 election campaign because of his support.
According to Shuwa, he remained optimistic that his loyalty and sacrifices would eventually be rewarded after Fintiri assumed office but said those expectations were never realised.
He further alleged that the governor discriminates against members of the Fulani ethnic group.
Shuwa claimed that Fintiri's disposition towards him changed after discovering that he was Fulani rather than Marghi, alleging that Fulani communities in the state had suffered neglect under the current administration.
He also accused the governor of favouring people from Gulak and members of the Marghi ethnic group in appointments and the award of government contracts.
In addition, the former supporter alleged that the administration gives preference to politicians who recently joined its ranks while neglecting individuals who had remained loyal over the years.
He called on Fulani voters across the North to reject any future senatorial bid by the governor, alleging that his style of politics was driven by ethnic considerations.
Shuwa also linked his claims to the emerging political alignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, arguing that dissatisfaction among some supporters could have political implications.
As of the time of filing this report, Governor Fintiri and the Adamawa State Government had not responded to the allegations.
