Nigerian passport holders can still travel to 44 countries and territories without securing a visa before departure, despite the country's drop in the latest global passport ranking released by Henley & Partners.
The July 2026 Henley Passport Index placed Nigeria 90th among 199 passports worldwide, slipping one place from its 89th position in the April edition. However, the country's visa-free access score remained unchanged at 44 destinations.
According to the index, the 44 destinations comprise countries that admit Nigerians through visa-free entry, visa on arrival or electronic visa (e-visa), depending on their respective immigration policies.
Henley & Partners compiles the ranking using data from the International Air Transport Association, assessing the number of destinations passport holders can access without obtaining a visa before travelling.
Although Nigeria fell one place in the latest ranking, it has recorded gradual improvement over the years, moving up from 94th position in 2025 and 103rd in 2021.
The destinations accessible to Nigerian passport holders include Barbados, Benin, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cambodia, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Chad, Comoro Islands, Cook Islands, Côte d'Ivoire, Djibouti, Dominica, Fiji, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Haiti, Iran, Kenya, Kiribati, Lebanon, Liberia, Madagascar, Maldives, Mali, Mauritius, Micronesia, Montserrat, Mozambique, Niger, Niue, Palau Islands, Rwanda, Samoa, Senegal, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, St. Kitts and Nevis, The Gambia, Timor-Leste, Togo, Tuvalu and Vanuatu.
Several of the destinations grant Nigerians visa-free entry, while others issue visas on arrival or require travellers to obtain an electronic visa before arrival.
Prospective travellers have, however, been advised to verify the latest immigration guidelines with the relevant authorities before embarking on any international trip, as entry requirements may change without prior notice.
