The Ondo State Police Command has launched a manhunt for three suspected armed robbers who allegedly attacked a female motorist along the Ondo-Ile-Oluji Road in a failed robbery attempt.
The command's spokesperson, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, disclosed this in a statement on Monday, saying the incident occurred at about 6:30pm on Sunday at the Otaasan area of the Ondo-Ile-Oluji Road.
According to the police, the victim, Mrs. Adebusoye Atinuke, 50, was driving along the route when the armed men emerged and allegedly opened fire on her vehicle in an attempt to force her to stop.
The police said the victim, however, escaped unhurt after displaying remarkable courage and presence of mind, forcing the suspects to abandon the operation and flee into a nearby bush without carrying out the robbery.
Jimoh said police operatives responded immediately after receiving the report and commenced a coordinated search of the surrounding area in an effort to track down the fleeing suspects.
He added that an investigation had begun, while efforts had been intensified to identify and arrest those behind the attack.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Felix Ohagwu, assured residents that the command remained committed to protecting lives and property across the state.
Ohagwu urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious persons or activities to the nearest police station or through the command's emergency channels.
The police commissioner also advised motorists, particularly those travelling at night, to be security conscious and cooperate with security agencies by providing credible and timely information that would assist in preventing crime and improving the safety of road users.
