The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested a 26-year-old cleaner for allegedly stealing a Toyota Corolla Sport valued at about ₦18 million from a serving National Youth Service Corps member in the state.
The suspect, Mohammed Dan-Azumi, was apprehended in Kano State after an intelligence-led operation by operatives of the State Intelligence Department, according to the command's spokesperson, SP Suleiman Nguroje.
Police said the vehicle's owner had handed it over to the suspect for washing before he allegedly drove away with it to an unknown destination.
The command said detectives tracked the suspect to Kano, where he was arrested and the stolen 2016 Toyota Corolla Sport was recovered.
Investigations revealed that the suspect worked as a cleaner at Girei Cottage Hospital, where the vehicle owner is serving as a medical doctor under the National Youth Service Corps scheme.
The police said the suspect would be charged in court after the conclusion of investigations.
Commending the operatives, the Commissioner of Police, Kabiru Hassan, praised the professionalism of the investigating team and reaffirmed the command's commitment to tackling crime across the state.
He also urged residents to continue supporting the police with timely and credible information to aid efforts at combating criminal activities.
