The National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress, Rauf Aregbesola, has claimed he is the first governor in Nigeria to have completed an eight-year tenure without owning a personal house.
The former Osun State governor made the assertion in a video message to his supporters, saying he lived in a friend's house throughout his two terms in office.
Aregbesola, who governed Osun State between 2010 and 2018 before serving as Minister of Interior under former President Muhammadu Buhari, said anyone disputing his claim should produce evidence of any house belonging to him.
"I am the first governor in Nigeria to govern a state for eight years without owning a house of my own. I stayed in my friend's house throughout my tenure in my father's land," he said.
He added, "If anyone says what I am saying is not true, such a person should come forward and show Nigerians the house I own."
The former governor also reflected on the objectives of his administration, saying his government was focused on tackling poverty, hunger and unemployment while improving healthcare, strengthening education and promoting peace and development across the state.
Aregbesola, once a close political ally of President Bola Tinubu, currently serves as the National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress.
