The Kano State Government has begun the process of retrieving duplicate July 2026 salary payments erroneously credited to some civil servants, blaming the development on a banking system malfunction.
The directive was conveyed in a circular issued by the Office of the Accountant General and signed by the Deputy Director of the Kano Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System, Abdulhadi Hamza.
The government explained that the double payments were caused by a technical problem encountered during the salary disbursement process at the bank handling the transaction.
It disclosed that the financial institution had commenced reversing the excess payments from the accounts of affected workers.
The circular advised employees who received the duplicate salaries to refrain from taking any action until the recovery process is concluded and further instructions are issued by the Accountant General's Office.
According to the government, workers whose excess payments cannot be recovered through the bank's reversal process will be notified and provided with the necessary guidelines for refunding the outstanding amounts.
The Office of the Accountant General appealed to the affected civil servants for understanding and cooperation while efforts are underway to resolve the payroll error.
The state government expressed confidence that the issue would be resolved promptly, assuring workers that appropriate measures had been put in place to address the glitch and prevent a recurrence.
