A 30-year-old man, Musbawu Amodu, has been arrested by the Nasarawa State Police Command for allegedly beating his wife to death during a domestic dispute in Agyaragu, Obi Local Government Area of the state.
The police alleged that the altercation occurred after the deceased, a 20-year-old woman, reportedly declined to prepare a meal, leading to a violent confrontation that turned fatal.
The command's spokesperson, SP Ramhan Nansel, disclosed in a statement on Sunday that the suspect was apprehended after the police received a report that he had assaulted his wife, who later died from injuries sustained in the attack.
According to Nansel, the suspect admitted during interrogation that he attacked his wife in a fit of anger following a disagreement over cooking.
He said, "The suspect confessed to committing the act out of anger after the deceased allegedly refused to prepare food. An argument ensued, which escalated into a physical altercation that ultimately resulted in her death."
The police spokesman added that the couple had been married for six years and were parents to two children—a boy and a girl.
Following the incident, the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Shettima Jauro Mohammed, directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Lafia for a comprehensive investigation.
The police commissioner assured residents that justice would take its course, adding that the suspect would be prosecuted upon the conclusion of investigations.
