The Jigawa State Police Command has commenced an investigation into the death of a 60-year-old man who reportedly collapsed at a hotel in Dutse after checking in with a 20-year-old woman.
The command's spokesperson, SP Lawan Shiisu Adam, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday, saying the incident occurred at a hotel within the state capital.
According to the police, the deceased and the woman checked into the facility before the man requested a meal.
The command said the man suddenly developed a medical emergency and began gasping for breath, prompting a distress call to the police.
Adam said officers attached to the Yalwawa Division responded promptly and rushed the victim to the General Hospital, Dutse, where medical personnel confirmed him dead.
He added that detectives who visited the hotel room recovered food items, drinks, a suspected sexual enhancement substance and other personal belongings as part of the ongoing investigation.
The police spokesperson said the deceased's remains were later released to his family for burial following their request.
He noted that the 20-year-old woman, who was with the deceased at the time of the incident, is assisting investigators with useful information.
The command urged residents to refrain from spreading unverified information, assuring the public that a thorough and impartial investigation would determine the circumstances surrounding the man's death.
