The National Emergency Management Agency has concluded the distribution of 24,302 food baskets donated by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre to vulnerable households in Yobe, Benue, Kebbi, Anambra and Taraba states.
The distribution exercise, which began on June 18, 2026, in Damaturu, Yobe State, was flagged off by the Director-General of NEMA, Mrs Zubaida Umar. According to a statement issued on Thursday by the agency's Press Unit spokesperson, Manzo Ezekiel, the food items were delivered directly to identified vulnerable households across the five beneficiary states.
The statement said Benue received 6,403 food baskets, Yobe got 6,000, Kebbi received 4,399, while Anambra and Taraba received 4,000 and 3,500 food baskets respectively, bringing the total distributed to 24,302.
Speaking at the inauguration of the exercise, Umar described the donation as a reflection of the enduring humanitarian partnership between Nigeria and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia through KSrelief.
She said the intervention would complement ongoing efforts to support vulnerable Nigerians affected by disasters, insecurity, climate-related emergencies and prevailing economic hardship.
The NEMA boss also warned residents to take precautionary measures against flooding during the rainy season by clearing drainage channels, avoiding indiscriminate disposal of refuse in waterways, relocating from flood-prone communities where necessary and complying with official early warning alerts.
She further urged parents to keep children away from floodwaters and erosion-prone locations during heavy rainfall, stressing the need for increased vigilance to prevent avoidable tragedies.
Umar reaffirmed the Federal Government's commitment to improving the welfare of citizens and urged beneficiaries to make good use of the food items to support their households.
Also speaking, the KSrelief representative, Mr Majeed Alanazi, said the donation aligned with the centre's humanitarian mission of providing assistance to vulnerable populations globally. He added that the intervention underscored KSrelief's commitment to supporting Nigerians through strategic humanitarian partnerships.
