Nnamdi Kanu’s wife speaks on reports of filing for divorce

Uchechi Kanu, wife of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, has dismissed reports claiming she filed for divorce from her husband.

She reacted to the reports on Friday through her verified X account, using a laughing emoji to mock the claims.

In the post, Uchechi wrote, “Good conscious evening, my blessed Biafrans. I have just learned that I filed for divorce while my husband is in prison.”

The response followed online reports alleging that she had sought to dissolve the marriage over claims of infidelity, financial neglect and alleged interference by members of Kanu’s family.

The reports also alleged that the marriage, which began in 2009, had been strained for years by accusations of extramarital affairs and other domestic issues.

Among the claims was that Kanu had allegedly maintained a relationship with a woman identified as Chioma Amaryllis Ahaghotu before his arrest in 2015 and that she had provided him with financial support before ending the relationship after allegedly discovering he was married.

However, Uchechi did not address the specific allegations, choosing instead to dismiss the reports with her brief social media post.

Nnamdi Kanu is currently serving a life imprisonment sentence at the Sokoto Custodial Centre following his conviction on terrorism-related charges linked to his campaign for the secession of Biafra.
