The Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology, Okitipupa, Ondo State, has received medical equipment valued at over N5 million from a lecturer in its School of Management Sciences, Dr. Israel Olabode Aroge, his wife, Dr. (Mrs.) Modupe Grace Aroge, and their family.
The donation was presented during a brief ceremony held at the School of Management Sciences building on the university's main campus, where the institution described the gesture as a major boost to practical medical training.
Receiving the equipment on behalf of the university, the Registrar, Mr. Abiodun Peter Okunniga, said the donation came at a critical time and would significantly enhance practical learning for students in the health sciences.
He expressed appreciation to the Aroge family for the philanthropic gesture, noting that the equipment would improve the teaching of medical concepts and strengthen students' hands-on experience.
Okunniga also appealed to public-spirited individuals, corporate organisations and alumni to support the university with infrastructure and educational facilities, including hostels, lecture theatres, computers, laptops, textbooks and other teaching resources.
The Acting Dean of the School of Allied Health Sciences, Dr. Akinyehun Olubanjo, described the donation as life-saving, saying the availability of such equipment in hospitals and clinics could help reduce deaths arising from accidents and medical emergencies.
He commended the donors for their commitment to advancing healthcare education, adding that their generosity would leave a lasting impact on the training of future health professionals.
Speaking during the presentation, Aroge said the donation was intended to complement existing facilities, improve practical training and contribute to the development of the School of Allied Health Sciences and the university as a whole.
He urged Nigerians to support educational institutions in whatever way they could, stressing that individuals should contribute meaningfully to societal development while they have the opportunity.
Also speaking, the Coordinator of Nursing Sciences, Mrs. Foluke Mesarawon, thanked the donors, saying the equipment would enhance students' practical competence and better prepare them for professional practice.
Among the items donated were CPAP and BiPAP machines, suction and nebuliser machines, sphygmomanometers, stethoscopes, spirometers, anatomical models, syringes, catheters, theatre drapes, medical consumables and a multimedia projector.
The presentation was attended by members of staff of the School of Management Sciences and the School of Allied Health Sciences.
