The Vice-Chancellor of the Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology, Okitipupa, Ondo State, Prof. Temi Ologunorisa, has been elected a Fellow of the Royal Meteorological Society, United Kingdom, in recognition of his contributions to meteorology and climate science.
The institution disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday by its Directorate of Information, Protocol and Public Relations, saying the fellowship became effective on July 13, 2026.
According to the statement, the election was formally conveyed in a letter dated July 16, 2026, signed by the Chief Executive of the Royal Meteorological Society, Prof. Liz Bentley.
The Society said the honour entitles Ologunorisa to use the post-nominal "FRMetS" and urged him to continue promoting excellence in meteorological science and its practical applications.
Founded in 1850, the Royal Meteorological Society is one of the world's leading professional bodies dedicated to weather, climate and atmospheric sciences. Fellowship is reserved for individuals who have demonstrated outstanding contributions to the advancement of the field.
The university noted that the recognition came shortly after Ologunorisa delivered the keynote address at the inauguration of the National Executive Council of the National Association of Nigerian Students in Abuja, where he highlighted OAUSTECH's progress in marine and coastal studies.
As a distinguished Guest Speaker in Aret Adams Professorial Chair lecture series in the Departmentof Geology, University of Ibadan, Ologunorisa spoke on strategies for developing Nigeria's blue economy.
Reacting to the development, the Dean of the School of Environmental and Earth Sciences, Prof. Oladotun Oluwajana, described the fellowship as a significant international recognition of the Vice-Chancellor's academic accomplishments and leadership.
He said the honour would further strengthen the university's research drive in the blue economy, particularly in areas such as climate, energy, governance and security.
The university added that Ologunorisa's research interests in climate change, disaster risk management and coastal defence align with the global objectives of the Royal Meteorological Society to advance weather and climate science for societal development.
