The Ondo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has inaugurated a reconciliation committee as part of efforts to resolve internal disputes, strengthen party unity and position the party for the 2027 general elections.
The committee was inaugurated during a meeting held at the APC secretariat in Akure by the state chairman, Mr Kolawole Babatunde, in the presence of party leaders, members of the Elders' Forum, stakeholders and members of the committee.
Babatunde said the committee was constituted to reconcile aggrieved members, deepen internal democracy and promote inclusiveness across all levels of the party. He added that the move reflected the leadership's commitment to preserving unity within the APC ahead of future elections.
He commended members of the committee for accepting to serve, while acknowledging the contributions of party elders, including Jamiu Ekungba and Vincent Oyepata, for their continued support to the party.
The APC chairman also expressed confidence in the leadership of the committee chairman, Prince Biyi Poroye, describing him as a seasoned politician with the capacity to drive the reconciliation process successfully.
He reaffirmed the party's resolve to mobilise support for President Bola Tinubu's re-election in 2027 and secure victory for all APC candidates seeking elective positions in the state.
"Our party remains one united family. The committee has been established to heal grievances, restore confidence among members and strengthen our collective resolve ahead of the 2027 general elections. We are committed to ensuring victory for President Bola Tinubu and all APC candidates in the state," Babatunde said.
Speaking after the inauguration, Poroye thanked the party leadership and Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa for the confidence reposed in the committee, assuring members that the assignment would be handled with fairness, transparency and impartiality.
He said the committee would engage all stakeholders without bias and ensure that every issue threatening the unity of the party received adequate attention.
"The guiding principles of this committee are fairness, justice, equity, inclusiveness and genuine reconciliation. We will carry every stakeholder along and ensure that no genuine member of the APC is left behind in the reconciliation process," Poroye said.
Also speaking, Ekungba described the inauguration of the committee as a timely step towards consolidating the party ahead of the next general election.
He urged members of the APC across the state to embrace peace and reconciliation, expressing confidence that the committee would strengthen the party and enhance its electoral fortunes in 2027.
