An Ondo State Magistrate's Court sitting at Oke Eda, Akure, has sentenced a man, Basiru Adamu, to 18 months' imprisonment for stealing a surface water pumping machine valued at N150,000.
The court also ordered the convict to pay N150,000 in compensation to the owner of the stolen machine.
The prosecutor, Precious Nwanfor, told the court that the offence was committed on July 1, 2026, at about 11:38 a.m. near the South Gate of the Federal University of Technology, Akure.
According to the prosecution, Adamu unlawfully entered the residence of one Ipinlare Oluwadamilare and made away with a surface water pumping machine worth N150,000.
The defendant was arraigned on a two-count charge bordering on unlawful entry and stealing, offences said to be contrary to the Criminal Code Law of Ondo State.
During the proceedings, Adamu pleaded not guilty to the charge of unlawful entry but admitted guilt to the stealing charge.
Following his plea, the prosecutor applied to withdraw the unlawful entry count, an application granted by the court.
In her judgment, Magistrate Damilola Sekoni convicted Adamu for stealing and sentenced him to 18 months in prison.
The magistrate further directed the convict to pay N150,000 as restitution to the complainant for the stolen property.
