The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has appointed Mr Folayemi Adeyemo Gabriel as the new Commander of its Ondo State Command, with a pledge to strengthen the fight against illicit drug trafficking and substance abuse through intelligence-driven operations and modern technology.
Adeyemo, a Commander of Narcotics, said he would consolidate on the achievements of previous commanders while introducing fresh strategies to tackle emerging trends in drug-related crimes across the state.
The new commander, who assumed office after his appointment on July 24, 2026, spoke shortly after taking over the leadership of the command.
He disclosed that he joined the anti-narcotics agency in 1997 after completing the Assistant Superintendent of Narcotics Course 6 and has spent close to three decades in service.
Adeyemo, an indigene of Supare-Akoko in Ondo State, attended Salvation Army Primary School and Ayegunle High School before obtaining a degree in Economics from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife. Before joining the NDLEA, he worked with a transport consultancy firm in Lagos after completing the National Youth Service Corps.
Throughout his career, he has served in several commands across the country, including Makurdi, Lokoja, Abeokuta, Ogbomosho, Ibadan, Niger, Anambra, Apapa, Kebbi, Ekiti and the Akure Zonal Command.
The commander recalled recording significant successes in drug interdiction operations during previous postings, saying the achievements earned him commendations and accelerated promotion within the agency.
Speaking on his plans for Ondo, Adeyemo said the command would intensify intelligence gathering and deploy technology to track drug trafficking syndicates operating through digital platforms.
"Drug traffickers continue to change their methods, so we must also improve our strategies. We will build on the existing structure while strengthening intelligence-led operations to stay ahead of criminal networks," he said.
He added, "The agency has continued to train officers in digital intelligence and cyber surveillance. We will leverage these capabilities to infiltrate online drug networks, dismantle their operations and protect residents of Ondo State from the dangers of illicit drugs."
Adeyemo reaffirmed the command's commitment to sustained enforcement, public sensitisation and collaboration with relevant stakeholders to curb drug abuse and trafficking across the state.
