The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Esther Walson-Jack, has told the House of Representatives ad hoc committee investigating the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council controversy that the office occupied by the council was officially allocated to the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
Walson-Jack disclosed this on Monday while appearing before the panel probing the circumstances surrounding the controversial agency and the ₦1.3bn earmarked for it in the 2026 Appropriation Act.
According to her, the office in question is situated within the Federal Secretariat complex in Abuja and was originally assigned to the OSGF.
The controversy over the PFIPC followed allegations involving President Bola Tinubu's Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, and the self-acclaimed Director-General of the council, Adeniyi Adeyemi.
On June 11, Gbajabiamila distanced himself from Adeyemi, insisting he had no knowledge of him and maintaining that the PFIPC was not a recognised government agency.
The Chief of Staff also disclosed that he had petitioned security agencies in October 2025 after reports emerged of forged appointment letters linked to the council.
He added that Adeyemi was subsequently arraigned before the Federal High Court on charges bordering on forgery, impersonation and obtaining by false pretence.
Adeyemi, however, rejected the allegations, insisting he would defend himself in court and clear his name.
Following the claims and counterclaims, President Tinubu directed security agencies to conduct an independent investigation into the matter. Adeyemi was later arrested, interrogated and subsequently released as investigations continued.
